Dental Implant Treatment – What Are the Benefits?

The main reason to consider investing in dental implant treatment is because of their durability. Implementing good hygiene practices and regular dental visits can help implants to last for decades, if not a lifetime.

Implants also offer a tremendous amount of security. Edentulous patients do not have to worry about their dentures slipping while they talk or eat.

It is also easier to care for dental implants. Patients with implants and crowns brush and floss as normal. Our hygiene department also provides edentulous patients with home hygiene instructions and the tools they need to clean their dentures and implants properly.

Restoring a missing tooth or teeth with implants can also help prevent:

Gum disease

Broken teeth

The Dental Implant Process

Here is what patients can expect when they see us for implants:

Implant Consultation:

A comprehensive examination allows us to determine whether implants are the best option, in addition to evaluating whether the patient is a good candidate for implants. We will perform an oral examination and take dental x-rays to assess the health of the remaining teeth and the jawbone.

Implant Placement:

During the first surgery, we will extract the tooth if necessary and replace the missing tooth with the implant screw. Patients are fully anesthetised during the procedure to ensure maximum comfort.

Abutment Placement:

After a four- to six-month healing period, we will perform a second minor surgical procedure. We incise the gum tissue over the implant and place a healing cap on top of the screw. The healing cap allows the patient’s gums to heal in a way that provides us access to the implant so we can place the abutment and crown over it.

Crown, Bridge, or Denture Placement:

Two to three weeks later, we affix the crown, bridge, or denture to the implant.
